October/ Octobre
I am pleased to announce that I will be continuing to work with your child until Christmas!
A peek at the curriculum:
Home Reading:
Family time is so important...why not make reading part of this valuable time with your child! We will be starting the first week of October. Booklets will be sent home with your child to practice their reading skills. It is important to read each booklet at least 3 times before sending it back to school. Have your child focus on the words repeating from page to page. These are sight words that we are working on in class. There will be a letter included with your child's Home Reading duotang for more information. Thank you for your support in making our Home Reading program a success!
Classroom Party:
If you have signed up to bring a snack for our Halloween Party, you will receive a reminder email a week prior to the event date.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Home Reading:
Please make sure that Home Reading is being completed each week along with the comment section on the yellow sheets in the duotang. The more your child is reading to you, the more knowledge they can absorb. It is important that your child learns to follow words across the page from left to right, and turn pages which are pre-reading skills that will benefit them to become better readers. Children who enjoy reading not only do better in language and literacy subjects, but in all of the subjects as well. Reading out loud exposes your child to vocabulary on different topics, which means they hear words or phrases which they may not hear otherwise in their daily lives especially because they are learning a second language, reading is an easy way to help their language skills and is important to develop their fluency.
Each home reading book has a QR code on it. These QR codes are used to educate, inform and assist you and your child with French pronunciation. A big thank you to the French Immersion grade 1 teachers at Nicholas Sheran for creating this tool!
How to Scan a QR Code:
1. Open the QR Code Reader on your phone, tablet or iPad (Apple products use the standard camera feature while Android or Google products may require you to download a QR app).
2. Hold your device over a QR Code so that it's clearly visible within your devices screen. Two things can happen when you correctly hold your device over a QR Code.

Helping your child be a successful reader:
Your child's ability to read and write effectively will be one of the most important tools that she or he will use to build a successful future. Be apart of your child's learning by encouraging his or her progress and providing everyday opportunities to read and write at home. Themes & Curriculum: When students are able to connect classroom content with the world around them, learning becomes fun, easy, and inspirational. We cover a wide variety of themes that will help your child with a fun educational experience. Each theme holds hundreds of lessons and activities to integrate excitement into learning. Holidays, nature, seasons, weather, history and more will help inspire your child during class-time and impact their growth positively. If you have any questions in regards to the curriculum we are exploring please feel free to email me. A peek at the curriculum:

Once returned, the book will be exchanged and sent home as soon as possible (by Friday). Please ensure that your child reads to you at least 3 different times. Things to keep in mind when reading with your child...
